Chapter II - Distribution and Situation of the European Wolf
II.1 Abstract
In this chapter the distribution and situation of wolves in Europe is
dealt with.
First a short overview of the current legislation for conservation is given, reservations
from the Bern Conventions named and distribution, legislation and threats get listed for
each country with wolf populations. To gain a deeper understanding of the population growth
a tabular comparison of figures for the 1970, late 1980 and 2005 population sizes with
current trends are given. A short review of Distribution and Habitats for all of Europe is
next.
Finally all conclusions gained from the above information are combined and the greatest
threats for wolves in Europe named.
