Appendix III - Books about Wolves (A multilingual Selection - Links to Amazon.com)

A III.1 German books

  • A modern classic on the general behaviour of wolves and a great ressource for everyone looking for european wolf-men-history and especially behaviour of captive individuals and packs.
  • My personal favorite and offen called the best book on wolf ecology specially in Europe.
Hendryk Okarma is a polish ecologist working on the influence of wolves on ungulates and the wolf-men-relationship of his homecountry.
  • A classic for wolf ecology this time from a russian biologist. Despite the age of this work it still contains countless useful information on the accumulation of wolves to different bioms.
  • In the first half of this book Trumler introduces the genera of canidae and their evolution. The second part is about hybrids of different species of Canis and Dogs (Canis lupus familaris).
Sadly this book is hard to find in modern book stores. My own copy was printed in a limited edition.
  • A NDR report about german wolfs. This is a big source about the rediscovery of wolfs in Germany, problems and solutions.
  • A great collection of myths, tales and stories about wolfs.

A III.2 English books

A III.3 Magazin (German only)

Radinger, E: Wolfmagazin
The one and only german magazin for canides available. Since 1991 a reliable source of information on wolfs and there closer relatives in central Europe.
An additional part about international reports on wolfs can be found on the last pages.
